Since 2012, eu-LISA has managed the primary large-scale IT systems that guarantee the security of EU Member States, through the provision of advanced operational support in the areas of security and border management. eu-LISA’s development process is never put on hold, thanks to its team’s skills and evolutionary capacities. In fact, we continue to support Member States in making Europe a safer place even during the most challenging of times.
We develop accurate financial management approaches that are aimed at reducing costs.
We support continuous dialogue with our primary stakeholders towards identifying a common and long-term strategy.
We have at our disposal an efficient organisational structure that ensures the functional competency of the IT tools that are being provided to Member States.
We assist Member States with their use of skills, investments and their respective continuous development.
We enhance the skills and knowledge of each individual team member in order to foster their fullest potential, and to achieve set objectives.
We ensure that the Agency is aligned, at all times, with stakeholder requirements, to promptly respond to all their needs.
eu-LISA plays a crucial role in the technical implementation and in reaching the interoperability of the EU’s IT systems. Due in part to the expansion of the SIS, VIS and EURODAC systems, as well as the EES, ETIAS, and ECRIS-TCN systems that are currently being developed, eu-LISA will be able to ensure rapid access to essential information for internal security reasons, asylum requests, and the prevention of cross-border crimes.
Two new IT systems are to play integral roles in the process of optimising border checks of third-country nationals: ETIAS, for prior checks on the identity of EU visa-exempt passengers traveling to the Schengen area; and EES, which checks the entry/exit of EU visa-requiring persons, and the duration of their authorised stay.
One of eu-LISA’s objectives is to ensure that citizen mobility across Member States is both easier and safer. Thanks to its large-scale IT systems, the Agency provides migration authorities with increasingly accurate and updated data that allows them to rapidly process visa applications, while simplifying entry and exit operations for border guards – thus guaranteeing a high standard of security for individuals travelling to and from the EU.
eu-LISA’s mandate, which was revised and extended in 2018 at the behest of the European Commission, allows the Agency to continue the development of new IT systems in order to meet the growing need for integration and synergy between new and existing systems. The implementation of the EES, ETIAS, and ECRIS-TCN systems (all of which are already underway), will not only improve the delivery of services, but also bring about a reduction in operating costs.
